Christie and Tara

Christie, Tara "dearest",

A few years ago Grammy told me that (before she became pregnant with your father) she was going to be a professional fashion designer. Since her passing, I have seen a lot of her drawings and I know that she could have done it - she had her talent and the tenacity of a first generation American to boot. Now you know Juliet, how unique she was... Well, she wanted to make stylish dresses and skirts that had pockets! Because it's great to look good, but you still have to be practical.

Since then (and since going to school for art) I've been mildly obsessed with pockets. What you have is an early one of what should be a long series of pockets to be worn in various ways. The silver button is from her sewing box. Tara's is more like a seed-packet and Christie's pocket is a brooch; it can be worn on a shirt, a skirt, the inside of a coat, the inside of a pocket, on a scarf... While it may not be the utilitarian pocket it references - not big enough for a phone or even a credit card - it's just the right size for the "little things" you find along the way.

Hope it's a good way you find yourself going. Congratulations on your marriages!

'xo',
your cousin
